Armed Forces Day Leicester 2026

RAMC Veteran Takes Centre Stage at Jubilee Square

On Saturday 27th June 2026, Leicester City Centre buzzed with energy as crowds gathered for Armed Forces Day. Jubilee Square filled quickly with people who came to honour everyone who serves or has served in the British Armed Forces.

The parade kicked off at 11:00. Veterans marched proudly through the city while dignitaries took the salute from the dais. Overall, the event offered a powerful way to honour generations of service and sacrifice.

A Special Honour for the East Midlands Branch

One moment stood out for the Royal Army Medical Corps Association. Staff Sergeant (Retired) Adam Raz RAMC, from the East Midlands Branch, stepped up to read a poem to the entire congregation from the dais. Furthermore, he did so as a representative of not just the branch, but the wider RAMC family.

Armed Forces Day Leicester 2026: Why It Matters

Armed Forces Day holds an important place in the national calendar. It recognises those who serve, those who have served, and the families who support them.

For Serving Members of the Armed Forces

For those currently in uniform, Armed Forces Day is a public acknowledgement that their service is seen and valued. Joining the military, whether in regular or reserve service, demands separation from family, physical and mental strain, and a commitment that must be lived and experienced. Consequently, a day dedicated to public recognition matters more than it might appear from the outside.

It reminds serving personnel that the nation stands behind them, whether they are stationed at home or deployed overseas.

For Veterans

For veterans, Armed Forces Day also brings something important: a sense of continued belonging. Leaving the military can be a tough change. Many former service members miss the camaraderie and shared identity that shaped their careers.
Marching together at events like the Leicester parade helps veterans reconnect with their community. It also lets the public say thank you in person to those who deserve it.
  • It honours their service long after they have left the uniform.
  • It strengthens bonds between veterans across different generations.
  • It provides a moment of shared pride in what they gave.

For Members of the Public

Armed Forces Day should matter just as much to civilians. Most people in Britain don’t have a direct link to military life. Events like the Jubilee Square parade help bridge that gap and bring the reality of service into everyday community spaces.

When families line the streets of Leicester to watch veterans march by, they are doing something simple but meaningful. They are showing up to say that service matters.

By holding the 2026 parade at Jubilee Square, the event was placed at the heart of the city. This made sure Armed Forces Day was celebrated openly, proudly, and together, not hidden from public view.

The RAMC in the East Midlands

The Royal Army Medical Corps Association East Midlands Branch remains an active and proud group. Members often represent the Corps at local events, commemorations, and parades throughout the region.

If you are a former RAMC member living in the East Midlands and haven’t joined the branch yet, or if you’re a member who has lost touch, now is a great time to get involved and reconnect with your Corps family.
