Maj Matt Harvey RAMC: 1984 to 2026

Sometimes, the news you hear just doesn’t make sense. It’s a mistake, too early, or just beyond understanding. This was one of those, and we’re grateful to Jacky and Samuel for sharing a bit about Matt, as the RAMC family and many, many others are saddened by his sudden passing.

When we know, we will share more about the funeral arrangements.

Maj Matt Harvey joined the RAMC as a Pte in 1984. He had a career as a CMT in predominately Cdo, Abn and SF units with extensive deployment experience.

He rose to the rank of WO1, completing 2 tours as an RSM.

Matt then successfully commissioned as an MSO in the RAMC in 2006. Highlights for him of his commissioned career to date were OM SME to BATUS and SO2 Med BATUK. Matt retired from regular service in 2022 after 38 yrs, but he couldn’t stay away and took up an FTRS contract in 2023. Firstly as SO3 CBRN training (he loved CBRN), and up until his sudden death, SO2 DMS SO2 OL.

In total he served 42 years. Matt always gave any role 110% with a very strong sense of loyalty; hence work always came before family!

Matt collapsed and died very unexpectedly on Tuesday 4 August 2026, doing what he loved, helping people set up for the Enduro GP of Wales. He leaves his wife Jacky, Lt Col (Rtd), and his son Samuel, 2 dogs, 3 cats, a garden full of vegetables he was growing, and many unfinished projects. Not forgetting his prized possession, his Land Rover Defender.

He will be very missed.

Rest in peace, old friend.
